DFG Review Board Election

Last month, around 150,000 scientists* voted online for their representatives to the Review Boards of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation). In the preliminary election results (as of 22.11.2019) for the Review Board Water Research, Prof. Dr. habil. Gesine Witt, Professor of Environmental Chemistry at HAW Hamburg, garnered 870 votes and thus achieved first place in her review board for the second time.

The German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) had nominated Gesine Witt for the DFG Review Board Election 2019. She ran as an expert on environmental damage in water and on the seabed for Review Board No. 318-01 in the field of aquatic research. One of the main tasks of review boards is to scientifically evaluate funding proposals in their respective subjects. Gesine Witt is fully equipped for this task: In the last five years, she has raised 850,600 euros in funding for HAW Hamburg. In the field of third-party research, she has thus been able to gain extensive experience – in addition to her activities in teaching and research and the consolidation of international collaborations – not only with the DFG, but also with the BMBF and within the EU.
